Google, adding to its ever-growing portfolio of mobile search ads, has now introduced a new hyper-local ads feature for mobiles. The new feature indicates users on the move, about the exact distance between them and an advertiser’s business location, on their mobiles.
It’s that time of the week where, once more, here I am, dropping by on this blog to share with you folks my next round of My Top 5 iPad Apps of the Week. This time around for Week #3. I know, and do realize fully, that I am running a little bit late on this series, since when I got it started with this initiative, over in Twitter with #elsuapps, a good number of weeks have already passed by. So don’t be surprised if for the next couple of weeks you eventually seem more than one blog entry on this very same topic. That way we can catch up faster with the ones that I am currently sharing across on a daily basis. And that way walk hand in hand with those I keep sharing through Twitter itself.
In PR from Autodesk, the company not only announced a coming release for Mac OS X but also, a supporting app for iPhone and iPad – the AutoCAD WS mobile application, a new app for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch that will allow users to edit and share their AutoCAD designs in the field.Details…
Last week I bought a new Samsung Galaxy S Android phone and changed my phone service from my iPhone 3Gs on AT&T to T Mobile. I had some initial frustrations around getting the Galaxy to work the way I wanted it to and wanted to do an update after using the phone for a week. This isn’t meant to be a review, just random thoughts from your average user.
A friend showed me how to use Spotlight search on my new iPhone 4, and it’s a great way to find things quickly, but I really, really don’t want to have it search the thousands of songs I have on my phone, just my contacts and address book information. Is that something I can tweak or alter?
Whenever mobile social media comes up in conversation, I tend to hear a lot of f-words. Hopefully they won’t be censored here, as the ones I’m referring to are Foursquare and Facebook.
Perhaps I’m part of the problem. When I’m not writing about all the mobile check-in apps I use or what it’s like to be a Foursquare Super Mayor, I’m making overblown claims about Facebook gaining a universal following thanks to growth in its mobile user base. The f-words play important roles, but mobile social media is much bigger.
While a lot of the attention on AT&T and Apple in the past few weeks has been focused on the release of the iPad and new iPhone, the elimination of unlimited data plans is an equally important development, especially for website owners and publishers.
New Nielsen data from Q1 2010 shows that 23% of mobile consumers now have a smartphone, up from just 16% in Q2 2009. Between Q4 ’09 and Q1 ’10, Android and iPhone’s share of the smartphone market grew 2% each. Smartphone leader Blackberry lost 2% share to fall to 35% and Windows Mobile lost 2% falling to 19%.
I have written about NewsGator before (see NewsGator Offers Social Sites ™: A Comprehensive Enterprise Social Networking Suite). I have been a fan of NewsGator for some time as they were my first RSS reader in early 2004 (see Finally, I’m Scanning the Web through NewsGator). I recently spoke with Brian Kellner, VP of Product Management to catch up on their latest moves.
This is beyond annoying: I’ve been using the Notes application on my iPhone 3G to keep track of different things and now that I want to get the notes of, I realize that I’m kind of trapped. I can’t see any way to access them off the phone, even within iTunes, which reports that it’s backing up and syncing those same notes. Frustrating!!
