Voice On The Go

The name says it all, Voice On The Go.

Congratulations to this Toronto company for choosing such an excellent company name and domain name.

It describes what will become an increasingly important slice of all our lives.

Given the importance of the Mobile Web and the strength of voice control systems, they'll be seeing lots of competition from all the biggies, Microsoft, IBM, Nuance, all the major telecoms and the list goes on.

Google will presumably be in there somewhere, even if the Gphone seems a non-starter .. or is it?

The company announced (PDF) a most innovative Voice on the Go™ service for consumers and enterprises globally.

Subscribers can now use their voice to gain hands-free and eyes-free access to their email, calendars, contacts and other content, from any cell phone, BlackBerry® smartphone, or other Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) - safely while driving, or at any other time.

Voice on the Go also allows people with visual impairments or physical challenges to access their email.

As Simon Arnison, President & CEO of Voice on the Go points out, "'Hands-free' laws are pervasive worldwide.

Over 50 countries have hands-free legislation in place, including Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, India, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand as well as a growing number of states and cities in the United States including New York, New Jersey, California and Washington DC.

Recently, legislation has been enacted prohibiting text messaging while driving." The demand is clearly there.

Voice control is clearly a hot topic currently.

Nuance's acquisition of VoiceSignal announced this month was said to be able to offer better mobile voice control. Expect to hear a lot more on that in the months to come.
