You've got questions, we've got Tetris, and several other games from Jamdat for mobile handsets.
Now you can find Bejeweled for your Sprint or Cingular phone while you are hunting for just the right replacement fuse for your DVD player. The electronics retailer RadioShack will partner with mobile game provider Jamdat and resell its games at its stores.
The company notes in a statement that research firm IDC forecasts mobile games as a $500 million USD market. That could grow to $1.5 billion by 2008. Mobile phones with color screens abound, and more consumers have found appealing games to play on these newer platforms.
What RadioShack offers with this deal will be a bit of handholding. At a store, a retailer can walk a customer through a download. For many consumers who find the world of high-tech gadgets an unfamiliar place, a little personal assistance may help overcome that barrier.
Six games will be available initially from Jamdat, and RadioShack plans to increase the number of wireless providers it supports in the near future. Games will be available on a subscription basis, or as a one-time purchase. Those charges will appear on a customer's monthly bill from the wireless carrier.
