I use Mobile Me with my iPhone now, and am finding that the gallery feature is pretty cool, but it’s tedious as heck when I have to upload them one at a time. Isn’t there a smarter way to do this on my Apple iPhone 3GS?

Well, there’s good news and bad news, actually. The good news is that there is a way you can select more than one image, but the bad news is that it doesn’t (yet?) work with Mobile Me. If you select just a few images, you can email them en masse, but if you pick too many, you can’t even do that. Not sure about why these limitations are in place, but it does make it tedious to work with MobileMe gallery from your iPhone.

Then again, a little birdie tells me that there’s a MobileMe iPhone app cooking in the Apple kitchen, so perhaps one of its features will be just this capability. That’d be nice, since the more I use Mobile Me, the more I wish it was fully and properly implemented on my iPhone as well as on my MacBook and iMac.

let me show you what I’ve figured out, and perhaps someone can share how to do more or have it be a bit more flexible?

First off, here’s the Photo Gallery mode you’re already familiar with:

What you might not have noticed is the little box on the lower left with the arrow coming out of it. Tap on it and:

That’s interesting, isn’t it? Now, tap on a couple of photos, less than five:

You can see that there are two options on the bottom: “Share(5)” or “Copy(5)”. Tap on one more photo and you’ll see “Share” becomes disabled: you can’t share more than five! Tap on the additional photo again to unselect it and then tap on the “Share” button:

The only option here is “Email”, but doesn’t it seem like a very logical place to have “MobileMe” show up? Ah, well, it doesn’t.

That’s about all I can figure out, sadly. You can email up to five pics this way, or if you want to email more at once, tap on “Copy” then compose a message and “Paste” the photos in (double-tap in the message body area to get the Copy and Paste functionality to show up).

For purposes of comparison, if you just want to upload one picture to MobileMe, select the picture:

At this point, again tap on the square with the arrow coming out of it on the lower left corner. This time, however, you get a lot more options:

Select “Send to MobileMe” and…

Before it’ll upload the picture, you have to enter some sort of title. I didn’t realize that when I started working with MobileMe and ended up not uploading a lot of pics I thought I had uploaded…

Once you’re ready and have tapped on “Publish”, it’ll upload the picture (assuming, that is, that you have an active MobileMe account and have it configured properly on your phone. If you don’t, please check out some of the MobileMe Help articles I have published).

Once the upload is done, you’ll see:

You can view it or not at this point, knowing that it’s safely uploaded onto the Apple MobileMe servers.

Now, how to do so for multiple photographs at once? I dunno. Do you?
