Nokia To Offer More Yahoo! Mobile Services

Yahoo! And Nokia announced plans to offer Yahoo! Mail and Messenger on Nokia's mobile phones that operate on the Series 40 platform. These services will initially be available on the newly announced Nokia 6300, the Nokia 5300 XpressMusic and the Nokia 5200.
Nokia and Yahoo! have been working together since 2005 in efforts to bring Yahoo's services to the mobile marketplace. In the announcement, the two companies outlined the services that will be made available to Nokia users in the coming months:
Yahoo! Mail
• Have your familiar Yahoo! Mail on your Nokia device
• Easily manage messages through the phone's messaging inbox
• Store new messages locally on the device to allow for offline access
Yahoo! Messenger
• Send and receive messages and use emoticons on a mobile device just like on PC
• Set presence information to show your friends and family when you are available to chat, and view presence information to know when they are online too
Yahoo! Personal Information Management
• Never lose the contact information on your phone again
• Synchronize your Yahoo! contacts -- and your tasks and calendar -- on the PC with those on your mobile device
"Yahoo! Mail is the No. 1 Web mail service in the World, and Yahoo! Messenger is one of the most popular Instant Messaging services on the Internet. Our extended partnership with Nokia will allow tens of millions of people to access their favorite Yahoo! services on the move," said Marco Boerries, Senior Vice President of Connected Life at Yahoo!.
"Yahoo! is looking forward to continuing to work with Nokia to bring users compelling mobile internet services on an even wider range of handsets."
The move comes just a few short weeks after Google released its updated Gmail application for mobile users.
Yahoo!, of course, has a bevy of services at its disposal, even more than Google can currently boast. In a year where the company has been widely scrutinized for its lack of vision and innovation, drawing unfavorable comparisons to Google in that respect, the bright spot may come in the form of mobile services.
Catering to the mobile marketplace is one thing that Yahoo! seems to be getting right.
